After graduating as an engineer from St Andrews University, Adrian worked for several years as a mining engineer in South Africa and on the Namibian coastal diamond field. On returning to the UK he re-qualified as a lawyer and became a partner with Dickinson Dees LLP in Newcastle. In 2006 he retired as a senior partner in order to join Headline Pictures Ltd, which he had co-founded the previous year. He retired from Headline Pictures in 2021 after 13 years as Chairman. He is currently Chairman of Samling Institute, and a trustee of a number of charitable trusts.
Piers lives in North Yorkshire and works in the IT industry. He specialises in networking, security, and communications.

Previously, Chief Executive of the North East Chamber of Commerce and Vice Chairman of the Esh Group. Prior to that, 14 years in Barclays Bank plc (throughout the UK) and, before that, 12 years soldiering in the Royal Green Jackets (throughout the world).
A Deputy Lieutenant for Co. Durham; and Honorary Colonel for The Rifles in Co. Durham. Also, Durham Cathedral – The Foundation of Light; and a number of other charitable organisations.
